The Doll's House (2019)
Installation, film, and performance.
Documentation from the 2019 Glasgow School of Art Graduate Degree Show.
The Doll's House subverts the position of the heteronormative lens on societal normality. Using theatrical play and 'Clowning,' the artist challenges heteronormative and consumeristic ideals our society continues to endorse by bringing a little queerness to its household.
Using the domain of 'domesticity' as their backdrop, Dick explores binary hierarchies and their links to power and dominance: 'men'/ 'women,' success/ failure, winners/ losers, dominant/ passive.
Through a series of repetitive films and chores, the artist blurs lines between realms to encourage a critique of what we deem to be 'normal.'
